Recently, the European Union and cell phone makers announced that they're aiming to standardize the phone charger, to cut down on manufacturing costs and on the electronic waste that's created when people toss their old ones. READ THE ARTICLE HERE
If you're like me, you break approximately four cell phones a year (Blackberry Curve may you rest in peace). Which requires two new phone chargers for each new phone, one for home, and a car charger, and if you're me, then a replacement car phone charger when my first one mysteriously disappears.
Everytime I buy a new phone, I think, "Why can't there just be ONE charger for EVERY phone?!" Then we could all just share like one big happy family.
They're thinking they can accomplish this by next year. According to the article, consumer interest groups are pushing for broader measures, hoping that electronic makers will extend this to most portable devices. I say good idea.
All for one-- and one charger for all iPods, cameras and phones.
Cheers.
