So two jets fly low over Manhattan, people panic, and government officials are surprised?
The Associated Press has reported that today, panic-stricken New Yorkers fled the buildings en mass after spotting a jumbo jet and a fighter jet flying low over the Manhattan skyline.
It was just a photo op, but to the memory-stained minds of the city's people, it was cause for panic. The scenario was all too familiar, even eight years after the traumatic and devastating September 11 attacks.
Emergency lines were flooded with calls, people ran from the buildings, not knowing where to go-- stricken with fear and panic.
Apparently, not even the mayor was alerted to the Defense Department's photo op. And the Defense Dept. admitted that they'd intentionally decided not to inform the public.
What on earth did they think would happen?
Not notifying the public about the operation was insensitive, completely inappropriate and not very smart. It's completely outrageous for anyone in the Defense Dept. to think that this wouldn't incite panic. Nobody spoke up and said, "Hey, maybe this isn't a good idea?"
And these are the people who are in charge of protecting our country.
That's a scary thought.
