I don't know who's being sillier in this case, but maybe you can decide....
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals or PETA has recently announced its displeasure with Great Adventure for one of their events that features live insect eating as a Fright Fest event. At Fright Fests in the past, participating patrons had the opportunity to play a game that involves eating squirmy bugs and other unappetizing critters in return for prizes. (and OF COURSE there's a YouTube video)
Specifically, PETA is mad that the Madagascar Hissing Cockroach is on the menu.
So PETA called for a stop to the events. There was some communication between the two which ended with Great Adventure acquiescing to the request and then apparently changing their mind.
Some people think that PETA is a little extreme, and in this case, I'd have to agree with them.
Cockroaches are not puppies, and last time I checked, they were on every exterminator menu in the country.
So why isn't PETA calling up Terminix and whining about the mass cockroach extinctions that occur every single day? Or the mass ant extinctions? Or the mass execution of the rat population in NYC. Oh yeah, because these things are pests. They are not cuddly pets, or animals with complex emotions and I don't even know if a cockroach can feel pain, but who cares anyway? They're insects.
But in this case, PETA cares. They're angry and they don't want you to eat cockroaches. But who wants to eat roaches anyway?
