Background information: I was depressed about my life. It happens a lot. Mike tries to cheer me up in this e-mail It makes me feel better.
I know you get scared about your life and depressed sometimes. It happens to the best of us, including, but not limited to, me.
Life, as I'm realizing is hard. It takes a lot more to make yourself happy when you're an adult. But I guess that makes sense. Think about being young. Running around in circles was just the best! The simple pleasures of life become less and less exciting and pleasing as we grow older.
But I think they peak around 40 and then begin to come back once something as simple as brunch is exciting. That and senility is beginning to onset (hopefully later than 30).
We will be able to enjoy our lives at some point Leanne. While we are "young" now, we can travel as we save our money. The frequency of these trips and the extravagance of our destinations and venues will increase. It's normal to come out of college scared to death of bills and your future.
So in the meantime, let's just do what he have to. We'll work our butts off initially, being underpaid and overworked. But we'll advance, because that's what happens to people like us.
New opportunities that we are unable to see right now will open up. You'll become famous, and I'll start my own company or something. Rupert will get new toys. Everyone's happy.
I know how you feel. You come out of school thinking "damn I worked hard there. I deserve to slip into a life of comfort." The sad part is that college is the nursery school of life. We're just starting. We don't know shit. We've been prepped by paying a few bills (comparable to show and tell, keeping with the nursery school thing).
Now the hard stuff comes (long division!!!) and just like school, the better we do, the further we'll advance in life (get into a better college). It's so parallel!
Anyway, I miss you a lot and I love you. Write back!
Love,
Mike
